You're Welcome: An album review

Alright, generally speaking, I'm a gamer at heart, and music is probably a good medium to play games to. If you've read any of my blogs prior, I wrote about how people have complained about how A Day To remember wasn't the same from back then. (If you haven't this a good read, from a biased Author) Anyway, I've been listening to it all weekend because I was REALLY excited about this album. I really enjoyed the singles that were released before the album launch. So far it's a solid album. I really enjoy most of the album. The thing I can really say I have a complaint about is a few of the songs seem to be forced. Which a bummer. I'll still listen to them, but they aren't necessarily my favorite. I"ll go over a detailed list of each of the songs as this review goes on. I' wasn't paid to kiss their ass, or even hate on them. This is just an honest to god review of a new album of one of my favorite bands for 13+ years now. (god now I feel super old)

Brick Wall

This song is kind of hit or miss for me. I like the way it sounds, I just again like mentioned above felt kind of forced. I do enjoy the message it's trying to relay. but after the release of mind reader. and resentment. I just felt something with a different sound.

Mindreader

Oh boy, this song. It's SO DAMN catchy. I think we can all relate to the story this song is trying to tell. I hear this song and go "Someone who's in a relationship knows these feels" #singlelyfe. I'm sure it can be conflicted with other types of a relationship. But still. This song is great.

Bloodsucker

A song about a bad relationship? Who woulda thought. I can for sure relate to this one. I understand that The yin to the yang thing to relationships of any kind. This song defines that. The disrespect, the having a big heart, and being taken advantage of.  This song is slowly growing on me. I love it, the best kind of music

Last Chance To Dance(Bad friend)

A song about Dick bags. betrayal. being taking advantage of. Man, the only "negative" feeling I have about this song is I feel like they try a little too hard on the heavier parts. other than This song is a banger

F.Y.M

I really like the instrumental parts of the songs. In all honesty, and I know that all songs don't really have to relay a message. I might be dumb, but this song I don't get it. It's good, but not one of my favorites.

High Diving

Oh boy, oh boy. This song. I don't know why but this is literally my favorite song of all the non-single songs I REALLY like. I could say so much about this song. It literally speaks to me.  Looking at all the crap that got you to this point? I like the lyrics and music. This very well may be my anthem. especially as of recently.

Resentment

Breakdown That is all. I listen to this song and I seriously am reminded of some of the stuff from prior albums. I listened to this song a lot when It first came out. I know the joke is "MuSiC SaVeD Me" but I literally can't disagree. it has. and this song helped me out of a dark place.

Looks like Hell

I really think this song can hit someone in the feels. Changing, depression. To me, this song hits all those targets. I really like it, but to contradict myself, I almost wish this song was a little harder

Viva La Mexico

This song, I don't know, but I tell you what. This is another catchy tune. I love it. all I can really say about it

Only Money

This song makes me feel pretty sad. It's a message. Never forget who made you, and where you came from. literally "it doesn't define me, it was only money" I really like it.

 Degenerates

Don't judge a book by its cover I like the lyrics, I'm just not a fan of the song. It kind of reminds me of an Ex. Always judging da homies

Permanent

Honestly, I'm not sure what to say about this one. The future is Fucking scary man.

Re-Entry

Home is where the heart is? I think we don't really understand that we love seeing our favorite bands live (I've never seen these fellas live, but I would KILL to). but especially if they families, it takes a toll on musicians. This song describes that.

Everything We Need

I heard this one for the first time the other day. It for some reason hit home. I enjoy the way it sounds. My sister said it's humbling. I can understand that. This next to Resentment is probably one of my favorite of the singles.

I'll be honest, I was really hoping for a longer thought process to this all. but ya know, it's okay. I love these guys, and I really love this album. Part of me really thinks this album was a big middle finger to their last record company (speculation only) These guys are still at. They're making the songs they want to make. It's absolutely great. I hope that I can finally see these guys live in the future.

So this about wraps it up, I want to start writing more fun entertaining stuff on this blog, along with my streaming and stuff. Just trying to get into the groove of it all. Please, folks,  share this spread these words. If there's anything you want me to maybe review, movie game or anything let me know. I will.

later Folks!

Scruffy out!

It's Saturday Night!

Just like the title implies. It's Saturday night. Which is my very first Saturday night doing this. Now I'm certainly sure what you're thinking as you read this. What the hell? shouldn't this dude be doing something on a Saturday? Well, you are absolutely right. On tonight's agenda, I'll be starting Dark Souls Remastered. Seeing how it's one of the few games, I'm not totally 100% familiar with. I currently own all 3 of this series on the Pc, So I figure why not start with that? I was a latecomer to the series and I regret not starting when it got big. I have never played demon souls but played the others in this Code Soulsbourne series. Yes, I'm including Code Vein because who doesn't love a good wifu? I'll eventually switch over and play other games, but until then. Enjoy the Content!

oh yeah, I suppose you'll want the channel you can catch all this spicy action

A Day to remember, Have they changed?

I know, I know. This topic has probably been covered before. By many other people much cooler than I. But that's where you're wrong. I'm the coolest person you'll meet today.

In all seriousness, I enjoy this song. Seeing all the stuff I've been going through recently. It kind of hits home with me. I think as a fan, and a weirdo (not exactly in that order) I use songs as a form of expression. If you looked at my 125(currently) video playlist on the youtubes you'll see the random ways I've found to either make me feel better or even think about certain things.

Hey! I have an idea, I'll do a blog about EVERY single one of those videos. No? Ok fair enough. Hell, I don't even have the patience to do that.

Back on topic.  ADTR was probably one of the very first(fun fact I almost spelled farts there, if you needed a laugh) post-hardcore pop-punk bands I ever listened too. They've always had a good rhythm and the sound has always been pretty sick. My Sister and I have yet to go see them, and we will. WE WILL FIND A WAY! So yeah they've changed but let's look at this in a retrospective. I'm currently 25. I first heard ADTR when I was 14. That's eleven years of music. ELEVEN. What does that tell you? They were probably kids when I was. Just a bit older(and much cooler, but I'm fuckin' awesome now. So I think we're on a level playing field.) I act like I can't look stuff up while I'm typing, so after I looked it up, Jeremey McKinnon, my sister's future husband(keep dreaming child) is currently 33. Six years older than me. Think about when you were 14. Now look at yourself now (alright, you old fucks time is up)  Things have changed haven't they? You've grown. Some for the better. Some for the worse. They've all grown up. Want to know proof? The only member of the group to leave, Tom Denney(besides that drummer who I'm pretty sure we forget about)  left to spend more time with his family. Now I think that's what we call growing up, isn't it?  Most bands I listen to a couple to name a few don't even have any of the original members. Dance Gavin Dance and Ice Nine Kills(they have a few and I mean no disrespect still pretty awesome)

So let's not plot to bomb the panhandle (See what I did there?) They're still the same old guys, singing the same old songs. Just now, they're writing with experience and hearts. How about we act like the real fans and Just enjoy the music of the moment.

What I am, Who I am What I'm about

Who am I? You may ask yourself this question. Hell, you might not even care, and that's okay.  Keep scrolling. I'll let you know now, you're going to be missing out on something. Something almost what's the word I'm looking for? Mythical. No, no that isn't it at all. It's unquestionably Legendary.

I'd give you my actual name, but that would be weird. I want to keep the persona of the man behind the keyboard, well a mystery. You can call me Scruffy. You can call me that, or Scruff.

I'll use this to do a few different things. Firstly, my main goal is going to be setting off on an Adventure. An adventure through the interwebs. Via whatever world I'm in as of the moment. (Mainly pc gamings, seeing how I invested a ton into my computer) I have every intention of streaming and recording videos. Stop by grab a brewski, kick back and enjoy the show. (Don't expect any fork knife, I'm terribly horrible at it)
Second:  I also want to use this as an outlet for my thoughts. You are more than welcome to read those posts. comment on them and give your feedback. I've posted a few 3 A.M thoughts prior to this, but this is a new me and I plan on posting more. I am a barrel of useless knowledge and like to learn (What nerd am I right?) Hey that's okay. Bite me. There are going to be posts of things I think are neat, and I'll share them. We can get into a long-winded discussion about them. Fight me IRL...or violently via keyboard. Your choice. I don't fight fair. I'll talk about your mom. (R.I.P if she's not with us. she was a lovely woman).

Talking about your mum isn't the only thing we'll be going over. As I write this I'm jamming out to music. So I'll probably talk about that from time to time talk about stuff that get's me pumped up. Or again....things I find fascinating and you very well may like it too. As well as gaming news. Sports News(Mainly Pittsburgh stuff seeing how I'm a diehard fan)

I as well dabble into writing stories and such. Always things I've found I'm pretty good at. I've had some ideas I want to play with and see where they go.

So now the part you've all been reading for. Or skipped to(in that case shame on you). The page's name is The Nerf Herder & Knights of the Round Table. Why you may ask. Go back and watch Star Wars Episode V: An Empire Strikes Back (Best one of the Original Trilogy, change my mind) Leia Calls Han a Scruffy looking Nerf Herder. I'm not sure exactly what those look like, but If you could see me, that's what it looks like. In all seriousness, I've gone by Scruffy in many games. It's always been my goto. So why not roll with it? As for the Knights part. I've also when not using Scruffy, have used names from the Legends of King Arthur and his gallant knights. Gareth, Lancelot, and Gaharus have always been ones I usually use.  When I decide to befittingly use King Arthur I usually use, MortDeArt. I personally think it's much cooler than just well. Vanilla white guy name like Arthur.

If you've made it this far, and like what you've read, and wanna stick around. Excellent! The more the better. We'll hangout Via stream. Talk a bit of trash and have a good time. Raise a Brotherhood of Knights. Just like in the legends
Well, except we won't die or anything.

Anyways,
Thanks for reading the intro. Feel free to reach out,
We're here to kick ass and chew bubble gum. and we're all out of bubble gum.

Memories

Our Brain is an extremely intriguing organ. The memory center of our bodies and they control how we feel, our nervous system it's actually quite crazy, wouldn't you say?

I only mention this because, one night while I was playing the Division, I played random songs on youtube starting with ColourBlind by Hands like a house, trying to get into a new band, only because listening to the same things over and over again gets old. Well anyway, This song, "Slowly Dancing forever" by I the mighty, came on, at the time it was just part of an album stream. Something about it hit me. As for the title of this post goes "Memories" it just I don't know didn't evoke anything vivid, but in the sense just memorized us. Later as I was strolling facebook, i saw this post of fun facts, and how scents evoke memories, so do songs or music, in general, do the same?

I'm super lame and will google, just about EVERYTHING I, myself don't know a definitive answer to. I simply googled "Do songs trigger memories" and sure enough tons of articles, some sketchy websites, and some legit ones. Psychology Today where there proof of this exact statement. So, in fact, that actually does. Some of the few who will actually read this post, will probably be like "Meh I know Scruffy, He's insane" or "I can believe it" or even the extremities "Bullshit" To Those guys I would like to tell you  a few four letter words, but I wont because I am a gentlemen and a scholar. (minus the scholar part). Either way it goes I actually have sat down and listened to songs, and certain ones make me think of certain people or certain things. For instance, Hollywood Undead's Everywhere I go, reminds me of a friend that our long running joke were being members of the group, me being Johnny 3 Tears, and him Charlie Scene, because why the hell not? Guardian Angel by Abandon All Ships, reminds me of an ex-girlfriend. Downfall of us All by A Day to remember, reminds me of my sophomore gym class. That was always an adventure waiting to happen. Remember Sophomore means Wise fool. That's exactly what I was.

Well there we have it folks, Wanna throw in your own "Bullshit" or even throw in your own experience? Go for it! I'll throw the link to the article if anyone wants to read it as well as a few fun videos.

Here's the wise fool and company,

Nostalgia

I'll start with this being my first blog, with somewhat of a story.  This a pretty broad topic, nostalgia. Growing up we all those things we enjoyed, and now we see them and can't think of things you like super much.

Anyway, here goes.

Last night, I was playing Saints Row 4. Yes I occasionally (okay you caught me, more often than not that's what you'll find me doing) The soundtrack included a song that really truly hit the spot "The Touch" by Stan Bush.   That's right, one of probably the coolest songs ever made, and very inspirational as well. Now as for what that reminded me of is completely different. Transformers, The 1986 movie. Now for those who have seen it, I really don't have to tell you how awesome this movie truly was.

Sorry, Michael Bay, Your explosions and the hotness of Megan Fox, you have nothing on the O.G Transformers (was that too corny?) as well as your "All spark" crap, the Matrix of leadership by far is where it's at. That's what makes you a Prime,

the cast as well was extremely fantastic,  all the originals and then some. Robert Stack and the late and great Leonard Nemoy.

I should probably get back on topic. It was the whole point that, even though it's a movie before my time, eight years to be exact, it's still something I cherish. I even wrote a paper on this exact movie in my freshman year of college.

I kind of wanted to end this with the statement? What's your nostalgic kind of thing? Do you think it's something that is always there? or is it an occasionally something that happens at random?
